DRESS FOR SUCCESS: Spicing Up your Corporate Attire

As a business school student, I’ve been to my fair share of networking and professional development events. Till this day, I am fascinated by how corporate culture has stripped away people’s personalities from head to toe, literally. From nylon pencil skirts to standard blue dress shirts, I can’t help but think that I’m already living in a dystopian society. But that doesn’t have to be the case. 

After my first job at CURATED BASICS, a New York based men’s accessories brand, I realized that it only takes a few details to give your look extra wit. Focusing on smaller accessories like socks, ties and even lapel pins will take you out of the comfort zone and make you stand out. This way you can personalize what you wear, whether it’s a pair of polka dotted socks or pair of pug cufflinks. They’re small enough to be noticeable, but subtle enough for most conservative eyes.

Starting to care about what you want to wear rather than what you should wear to work will have a long term impact too. People will see that you put extra thought into the small details and develop a clearer perception of what you stand for. After all, people do judge others by their looks, whether we like it or not.
